As Raj wrote earlier this morning, World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz
had an unusual supporter, as former U.S. Ambassador to the United
Nations and famed Civil Rights leader Andrew Young rose to Wolfowitz’s
defense in an op-ed in The Washington Post.
Wolfowitz now seems to be saying he is a “victim”and that it would be
unjust of the World Bank’s board to find him guilty of ethical lapses.
Steven Weisman has more in an early version of today’s events in The New York Times.
Note that Wolfowitz, while mounting a vigorous defense, seems to be
providing some wiggle room for a soft landing out of the bank.
This is a much bigger story in Europe than across Middle America, so it
will be interesting to note how the major European news outlets cover
this story in the coming days. Stay tuned!
