2026 Ballot for Board of Directors
Voting Open 1 June 2026 until 1 July 2026
According to the bylaws of the Citizens for Global Solutions Action Network (CGS-AN), the members elect the Directors to the Board for a 3 year term. The bylaws for CGS-AN can be found on the Bylaws page, when you click on the CGS Action Network tab (or view the PDF version of the Action Network bylaws).
The ballot below was created by soliciting nominations from the grassroots leaders and other members and is recommended by the CGS-AN Board. To be a voting member, you must have paid your $25 dues to the CGS-AN in the past 12 months. Membership dues for CGS-AN can be paid online using using the Action Network membership form; or paid by check mailed to Citizens for Global Solutions Action Network, 5 Thomas Circle NW, Washington, DC 20005. Please include your email address. Ballots will be distributed via email.
Voting members may add to the proposed ballot the name(s) of other candidates by submitting their brief bio and a petition with the signature of 1 other voting member. Petitions with signatures and a brief bio must be sent to outreach@globalsolutions.org no later than May 15, 2026. All Board candidates must be paid members who support the vision and mission of CGS, are willing to work to help raise funds for CGS, and agree to behave according to the organizational values. The organizational values can be found when you scroll down on the About CGS page.
Ballots will be distributed via email on 1 June 2026. Voting will take place until 1 July 2026. You will be able to vote for all, none, or selected members of this board recommended ballot. To view the bios for each person, click on their names below:

Evan Freund
Over the past 20 years Evan Freund has served as President and later Treasurer of the Chicago chapter of Citizens for Global Solutions, as Treasurer of Citizens for Global Solutions since 2015, and as Treasurer of World Federalist Movement from 2021 to 2025. Prior to retirement in 2001, he developed and operated health care delivery organizations in Chicago for inner-city populations. He is a Life Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Following his retirement in 2001, he has volunteered as project manager, consultant, and executive coach with Executive Service Corps of Chicago. He has assisted many non-profit organizations to plan strategically, to recruit capable and needed members of boards of directors, to manage their finances, and to develop capacity to raise funds. Evan holds an MBA degree from the University of Chicago, an MA degree in Political Science from the University of Minnesota, and a BA from Cornell University. Evan now resides in Claremont, California.
Matthew McDonough
Matthew McDonough received his Ed.D from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and his MS from Springfield College. He currently works as a green energy consultant.
He joined the WFA in 1974. He was president of the Amherst, MA chapter, followed by a term as president of the New England region. At the national level, he served on the Board of Directors, the Executive Council, Chair of the Executive Council, and Treasurer. After a long hiatus, he is pleased to reengage with the organization’s leadership.
Matt believes that the principles enshrined in Citizens for Global Solutions provide the best hope for the future of humanity.
Bryan MacPherson
Bryan MacPherson received a B.S. from Oregon State University and a M.S. in Biochemistry from the University for Illinois. He then shifted from science to law and received a J.D. from American University and an LL.M. from the London School of Economics. He spent his working career as an attorney with the Department of Energy.
He has been involved with the organization since 1990, serving in a number of local and national positions. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors and serves as the organization’s General Counsel. He also serves on the Finance Committee and is a Trustee of the WFA Endowment Fund.
