When it comes to energy and climate change, I’m having a tough time deciding what to blog about today…
Should I focus on the new UN report cautioning about the dark side of biofuels?
Or speculate on what it means that GM has become the first auto manufacturer to join the U.S. Climate Action Campaign; a coalition of corporate executives who support a mandatory cap on greenhouse emissions and a 70-90% reduction in emissions over the next fifteen years as well as strong U.S. re-engagement in negotiations of a post-Kyoto international climate agreement?
Surely I should spend some time on the opening in Bonn today of the first round of talks seeking to break the deadlock on negotiation of a post-Kyoto international climate treaty?
But I’m also tempted to stay closer to home, updating you on the turf battle unfolding between Senators Boxer and Bingaman over biofuels legislation, and today’s SFRC (Senate Foreign Relations Committee) hearing on the National Security Implications of Climate Change.
And there’s part of me that wants to give credit where credit is due – applauding California and the 30 states who followed it for creating a system (the Climate Registry) for measuring and tracking the greenhouse gas emissions of major industries.
Finally, I wonder what the sidebar in the NYT today highlighting a CFR report calling for closer ties to Angola to exploit its oil resources will mean, not just for the future of oil supplies, but for the future of Angolan citizens, and the citizens of other oil-rich and peace-poor nations around the world?
Since I can’t decide, maybe you can help sort out the Wednesday energy mash…? Which of today’s energy and climate headlines caught your eye, and what are your thoughts?
Talk to you soon?
