According to a report on the BBC , the negotiations over most recent report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Changeare going down to the wire. As is often the case in UN-run negotiations, the final goal is consensus and not necessarily the best outcome. That often means that the states opposed to the outcome of a given report/treaty/resolution often can succeed in dragging the final outcome in their direction — more reasonable states compromise in the hopes of achieving some sort of result.
So which states are dragging their feet on this report? Not surprisingly, the two main offenders are China and the United States. So good to see our government in bed with China while our erstwhile allies fight for the facts. Needless to say, this does not bode well for the upcoming negotiations over what will follow Kyoto….
