One of my all-time favorite comedies is “This Is Spinal Tap ,” Rob Reiner’s Mockmentary about the world’s most obscure heavy metal band. If you’re also a fan, you might want to check out the new 15 minute-long update just released only on the web — it features the band’s original lineup: Nigel Hufnel (Christopher Guest), David St. Hubbins (Michael McKeon), and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer).

So what does this have to do with global issues? Well, the band has reunited to play at this summer’s “Live Earth” extravaganza at Wembley Stadium — an effort to raise awareness about climate change.

And keeping with the orignial film’s silliness, filmmaker Marty DeBergi (Rob Reiner) told the Live Earth organizers why the boys were paying attention to something other than Stonehenge and spontaneous human combustion:

They’re not that environmentally conscious, but they’ve heard of global warming…. Nigel thought it was just because he was wearing too much clothing — that if he just took his jacket off it would be cooler.
