I have spent some time reflecting on different aspects of the speech Larry Cox gave on Friday night at the United World College here in New Mexico. One part of the speech worth considering is Larry’s belief that those of us who wish to build and support a global human rights framework need to recognize that we are at a very dangerous point in history. The fact that our government has been so willing to go against core human rights norms as part of the war on terror threatens to pull the entire regime apart.
This may strike frequent readers of this blog as an obvious point but we need to do what Larry Cox did and take this message out to the American public and make it part of the discourse in an election year.
