Session I | Global Justice in Conversation: Pathways toward Environmental Justice

This webinar examined pathways to environmental justice through international and regional courts and tribunals, addressing one of the most urgent global challenges of the present moment. While the world widely recognized the profound environmental crisis it faced, this event explored how legal mechanisms could identify and hold accountable those responsible for catastrophic environmental harm.

Event Description

Organized by Citizens for Global Solutions in partnership with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute and the World Federalist Movement-Institute for Global Policy (WFM-IGP), this session was timed for participants in Asia and the Pacific. The panel probed potential legal avenues for environmental accountability, from advisory opinions at the International Court of Justice to the proposed crime of ecocide. The discussion drew on recent developments in international environmental law while also considering cautionary precedents such as the ICJ Environmental Chamber (1993–1996).
