“Not an Ultimate Goal but an Immediate Necessity”: the Past, Present, and Future of CGS’s Advocacy for a Democratic World Federation

May 19, 2024 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm EDT

The Citizens for Global Solutions St. Louis Chapter held its virtual annual meeting on May 19, 2024, featuring a keynote address by CGS Executive Director Rebecca A. Shoot. The presentation traced the arc of CGS’s advocacy from its founding in 1947 as the World Federalist Association to its current leadership on multiple fronts of global governance reform.

Event Description

Rebecca Shoot reflected on how CGS has harnessed the power of people and organizations for more than 75 years, building coalitions to achieve a peaceful, free, just, and sustainable world community. She traced the organization’s role in establishing the Coalition for the International Criminal Court (CICC), which resulted in the first permanent judicial institution dedicated to ending impunity for the gravest crimes against humanity. She outlined how that momentum continues to grow through CGS’s current initiatives.
