Noted peace historian, Lawrence S. Wittner’s thought provoking essay on how the peace movement can be more effective has spawned 11 responses, my own included.
Wittner calls for the movement to come together around a central organization. I believe this will be too limiting in scope, capacity, and entrepreneurial effectiveness. Today, an effective movement must organize around a more networked approach.
The other responses range from incorporating “working for racial justice and against racism” into the work of the movement to the role of the Democratic Party. The diversity of responses to Wittner’s essay point to both the need for better coordination and the difficulty in attaining it. They also me wonder if the question that should have been asked was not how to make the peace movement more effective but what is it? What do you think?
