CGS Editorial Fellowship

Citizens for Global Solutions (CGS) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-partisan membership-based organization that for more than 75 years has brought together a diverse collective of individuals and organizations. We are a member-driven movement with the common goal of a democratic world federation predicated upon peace, human rights, and the rule of law.
We are seeking passionate and skilled graduate students (or extremely qualified undergraduates) to provide CGS’s Breaking News Response team and the Mondial Journal team with research, writing, and editorial support. In these roles, you will play a crucial part in amplifying our mission and promoting our initiatives by crafting well-researched and compelling op-eds and helping maintain the high quality of our flagship journal. to raise awareness, influence public opinion, and drive positive change toward our organization’s mission.
All op-eds and journal submissions will go through an edit process our team lead and revise and edit drafts to ensure clarity, coherence, and alignment with the organization’s voice and messaging. This role would be critical to helping ensure our high-quality publication standards.
Fellowship Responsibilities:
- Team Management Assistance: Support a team of editors, reviewers, and editorial staff, providing guidance, support, and fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
- Communication and Collaboration: Facilitate effective communication among editorial team members, authors, reviewers, and other stakeholders. Collaborate with internal and external partners to enhance the journal’s visibility and impact.
- Policy Development: Contribute to the development and refinement of editorial policies, ensuring alignment with industry standards, ethical guidelines, and the needs of the scholarly community under the oversight of the Editorial Board. Author and Reviewer Engagement: Cultivate positive relationships with authors and reviewers, providing guidance on manuscript preparation, responding to inquiries, tracking submission deadlines/ following up on the status of submitted pieces, and addressing concerns to enhance the overall experience for all stakeholders.
- Research and Content Development: Stay informed about relevant news, issues, and developments related to our organization’s mission and focus areas, collaborating with the team lead to identify potential op-ed and journal submission topics that align with our goals and target audiences and participating in brainstorming sessions to generate new ideas for op-eds and journal submissions.
- Write persuasive, evidence-based, and thought-provoking op-eds and journal submissions that articulate our organization’s viewpoint and message.
Fellowship Qualifications:
- Excellent writing and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to craft persuasive and engaging content.
- Strong research skills to gather relevant information, statistics, and data to support arguments.
- Exceptional attention to detail and thoroughness with a commitment to producing high-quality work..
- Familiarity with op-ed and journal submission writing styles and formats.
- Passion for and alignment with CGS’s mission and values.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a virtual team environment.
- Previous experience in op-ed writing, journalism, or related fields is a plus, but not required.

Important Information:
This is an unremunerated volunteer role. Academic credit/directed study certification may be available based on the policies of the home institution of the successful candidate(s).
This is envisioned as a remote opportunity, although the successful candidate(s) would have access to CGS’s Washington, DC, headquarters office as desired.
