Session II | Global Justice in Conversation: Concurrent Pathways to Accountability

Held during International Justice Week in July 2024, this session examined ongoing situations and cases where multiple international pathways to justice are concurrent, including the International Court of Justice and other judicial institutions. The panel considered how these mechanisms can work together and what more must be done to realize the promise of ending impunity for the world’s gravest crimes.
About This Conversation
International Justice Day, July 17, commemorates the 1998 adoption of the Rome Statute establishing the International Criminal Court. The ICC now forms an integral piece of a complex and complementary global judicial architecture alongside treaty-based tribunals, regional institutions, and alternative methods of dispute resolution. This session was part of an inaugural webinar series taking a closer look at how these institutions can effectively complement one another and domestic judicial systems.
