About CGS Chapters
CGS Chapters are where global challenges meet local action. They are where members and friends come together to connect, learn, and make a real difference in their communities, all in service of a more peaceful, just, and democratic world.
Chapters are intentionally accessible and informal. Think less bureaucracy, more community. A gathering of like-minded individuals who care deeply about global issues and want to act on them locally. By building a local presence, Chapters nurture and mobilize Americans who support responsible U.S. global leadership and a democratic world community.
Chapters are supported by CGS’s national structure and resources, and actively engage their communities through educational and meaningful activities, often connected to our national campaigns. Chapter-led projects have included:
- Community dialogues — in-person, hybrid, and online
- Local campaigns for legislative or policy action
- Unique events such as film screenings and notable speakers
- Youth opportunities including essay contests and intergenerational engagement

How to Start a Chapter in Your Community
- Identify potential members — You need a minimum of three dues-paying CGS members who want to get locally engaged on global issues.
- Contact the national office — Provide the names and email addresses of your founding members.
- Connect with CGS staff — Someone from the CGS staff or board will reach out to discuss your chapter. They will send a Chapter Affiliation Agreement to be signed by all three founding members. Once signed, your chapter will be listed on the CGS website, and we will connect you with CGS members in your area.
- Plan your activities — Work with CGS staff to map out chapter activities for the upcoming year.
- Launch your chapter — Once you’ve received materials from CGS staff, reach out to members and like-minded organizations in your area to organize an inaugural program or event.
