Global Citizen Award to Martin Sheen

At the CGS 2021 Annual Conference on November 13, 2021, Citizens for Global Solutions presented its Global Citizen Award to acclaimed actor and lifelong activist Martin Sheen. The ceremony recognized Sheen’s extraordinary commitment to peace, social justice, and human dignity across more than six decades of public life.
Event Description
The Global Citizen Award ceremony honored Sheen for embodying the values of global citizenship through his tireless advocacy. Best known for his roles in Apocalypse Now and as President Josiah Bartlet on The West Wing, Sheen has dedicated his off-screen life to causes including nuclear disarmament, civil rights, environmental protection, and the defense of marginalized communities. The event also featured an introduction to the documentary film The World is My Country, which tells the story of Garry Davis, a WWII bomber pilot who renounced his national citizenship in 1948 and declared himself a citizen of the world.
