About the Artist
How did you hear about Citizens for Global Solutions Flash Contest?
I heard about Citizens for Global Solutions Flash Contest through my
teacher. She encouraged me to take up the project outside of
class. I felt that it was a great opportunity to be involved in a
global issue.
Was this your first Flash piece? How did you first learn Flash?
I had tinkered around in Flash before this project but had not done
something this extensive before. It was an excellent learning
experience.
How did you choose your topic –OR- Why is your topic important to you?
I chose my topic because I commute into D.C. every weekday for
school and before then I had not seen homeless people on such a
constant basis. It’s far too easy to become desensitized and to
ignore something that we see on a daily basis. I wanted to raise
awareness for the people that we close ourselves off to; locally and
globally. I read that every 16 seconds someone dies of
hunger. With this project I hope to guard myself against
impartiality and begin living in compassion for others less fortunate.
Before the contest, did you consider yourself fairly knowledgeable
about global issues? Has this contest opened your eyes in any way?
I hope that this piece will inspire others as it has me to want to do
something to change the lives of others for the good. I know for
me it is easy to become overwhelmed with the concept of world hunger
but when I realize that the world is made up of individuals, it becomes
much easier to help.
