Last month, Wendell and Madelyn Harter were presented with Citizens for Global Solutions' Edward Rawson Global Citizen Award, an award dedicated to honoring a lifetime of energy, service, and financial contribution to Citizens for Global Solutions. Together, the couple has helped shaped the organization and supported international institutions for over 60 years.
Don Kraus, CEO of Citizens for Global Solutions, said, "Wendell and Madelyn's support has been crucial to building the organization to where it is today. Their dedication is an inspiration to all of us to keep striving for a better, more peaceful, and more just world. Their efforts will live on as our organization and our movement continues to grow and build."

I received a newsletter from Wendell Harter around 1998 telling about a Garden Party at his home at which the topic of an International Criminal Court would be discussed. I liked the idea, so drove an hour from my home in Laguna Hills to hear what this was all about. That was the beginning of my involvement with WFA! I don't know how Wendell got my name and address... I have been a Chapter Leader since about 1999 which gave some of the older original members of the organization the opportunity to continue their activism. Seven of them have now passed on; one of them who had us meet in her home, providing coffee, her phone for the teleconferences and her dining room table for years of wonderful discussions, passed away last year at the age of 101. The others were mostly in their 90's, but we have had several younger members who have been faithful to the group ever since we started. It was Wendell who I would call with questions and he always had a good answer...even to the comment I made that I didn't have time to be a Chapter Leader any longer (a couple of years ago). He said, "Just do what you can." And that's what I've done. On Father's Day, I thought, Wendell has been a bit of a father to me: He's someone I admire and gave me lots of very practical advice.

I was so pleased to see the "Beach Reporter" article and picture of Wendell and Madelyn receiving an honor for their peace work--heck--I'd be happy to see ANYONE receive an honor for peace work, but the Harters truly, truly deserve it for their unceasing efforts. I attended meetings at their home back in 2006. I wanted to send them a card congratulating them but no longer have their address. Hope this reaches them!
