New Hampshire and Missouri Races Yield Mixed Results
MO-3
Last night in the House race for Missouri's 3rd District, Representative Russ Carnahan (D) defeated his opponent Ed Martin and won a fourth term in office. We are very excited about this win at Citizens for Global Solutions. Representative Carnahan is a co-founder and chair of the American Engagement Caucus and scored an A+ on our recent congressional report card. Rep. Carnahan finished the election with 48.9% of the vote. He and Martin were neck and neck in the rural areas of the district, but Carnahan beat Martin 2 to 1 in the city of St. Louis. We are very happy to see Representative Carnahan return to D.C. and we look forward to working with him and the American Engagement Caucus in the future.
NH SenateWe are sorry to announce that Rep. Paul Hodes has lost the New Hampshire Senate race to Republican Kelly Ayotte, who previously served as New Hampshire attorney general. Hodes was an outstanding candidate who was a staunch advocate of global issues as a House member, and it is unfortunate that he was not able to prevail in the Senate contest this year. However, Citizens for Global Solutions is looking forward to working with Kelly Ayotte next year in the Senate.
NH-2
We are sorry to report that Ann Kuster (D) lost the New Hampshire 2nd district race to former Rep. Charles Bass. Bass regained the House seat he lost to Rep. Paul Hodes several years ago, by a vote of 49 % to 46 %. This was a hard fought race and came down to the wire. Bass emphasizes that he is an experienced, fiscal conservative who has been a strong, independent voice. CGS looks forward to working with Rep. Bass on global issues in the future.
