ACTION: Call your senator to support funding for monitoring nuclear testing
|
The Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) is an international organization that, through an International Monitoring System, detects nuclear explosions. The United States, currently a member, owes $138.3 million in back dues to the organization. Nuclear testing poses risks to everyone, and it is vital that we uphold our promises, lead by example, and support funding for the CTBTO.

YOU: Hi [foreign policy staffer's name]. My name is [your name]. I'm with Citizens for Global Solutions in [your town/city].
I'm calling in regards to the funding of the Comprehensive Test Ban
Treaty Organization. I believe that the United States needs to keep our
promises and pay our bills in full. Not funding our part of the CTBTO
makes it less likely for contributing nations to do their part. And
that makes it harder for the successful monitoring of nuclear
explosions on the ground. I would like to request that Senator [name] support funding for the CTBTO. Can you ask him/her to do so? Foreign Policy Staffer: [Will offer to pass along your views or state the senator's position on the issue.] YOU: Thank you for your time. |
